'74 Type 2 Bay - Seals around engine compartment by
Ed Jones
Hello All.
How important are the seals which go around the base of the engine
compartment in a type 2 bay?
I'm looking after a camper (for my parents in law) with a newly
installed 1641cc engine, and the garage didn't fit any seals around the
new engine, so essentially you can see through the gap...

'74 windshild wipers by
Wily Fant via CarKB.com
I bought a 74 bug last week. All was working well the last time I drove
it. I parked it for 3 days and when I went to drive it again the wipers no
longer work. I checked the fuses and all looks good there. Any
suggestions for me to try while I wait for some repair books I ordered to
arrive?? ...

'75 1800 cc. pancake with Syntehtic oil? by
Bill[_20_]
Hello,
Firstly, thanks for previous info offered on other subjects recently!
They have been most helpful.
I am wondering if putting full synthetic oil in the 1800cc aircooled
bus will cause any problems with the old type eengine seals. It runs
nicely now, and doesnt use oil, (dripping, or...

'77 std. bug for sale by
Tim Rogers
This your last chance if anyone here is interested in this bug. It's
been a RAMVA car since before I bought it from Earle Horton eight
years ago and I'd like to see it go to someone who appreciates it and
can keep it on the road in its current condition. It still has a RAMVA
sticker in the back...

'78 bus 2.0L cold oil leak? by
matthew j henschel
Finally got the beast back together and running good, but she's got a nasty
oil leak when cold. Doesn't seem to hardly leak at all once its warmed up,
but it pours out when its cold. Dripping right off the oil filter. Can't
tell where the heck it's coming from. Any thoughts?

'78 convertible in Chicago suburbs. by
[email protected]
For the past few years there's been a vacated car dealership that had a
'78 convertible and an army jeep in the old showroom a handful of miles
from where I lived. Never knew who owned the building and I couldn't
get closer to the car to examine it, but from a distance it seemed a
pretty well...

'78 Super Beetle engine chugging by
[email protected]
I have recently replaced the fuel injectors, and though there is still
about .5mm of o-ring protruding, they seem to be in solidly. The
engine now fires, but after about 40 seconds it chugs painfully and
dies. The coil is new, the rotor and cap are new. The sparkplugs are
new. The mass air flow...

'78 Super Beetle, unidentified wires, engine stalling by
[email protected]
There are two wires next to the double relay in the rear luggage
compartment of my '78 Super beetle. Both of the wires are female spade
connections. They are both white and of similar length to the white
wires that go into the engine compartment side of the double relay. I
have not been able to...

Any ideas as to where I can find the cables for a hand actuated sliding
roof for a '79 bus/type 2. I am helping my granddaughter restore
hers(she is 16) and we are having no luck finding the cables.

'79 convertible - value? by
Gerry
I have an opportunity to pick up a '79 fuel injection beetle convertible
that has been stored for at least 5 years, probably more.
It seems to be in pretty good shape (body, top, upholstery) and am told it
"ran well" when put into storage. The clock shows 70k. It is, and reportedly
always has...

'bench starting' a newly rebuilt engine by
Mel P.[_2_]
I FINALLY finished rebuilding a 66, 6 volt engine. Did the whole split case
thing. Converted it to a 12 volt. Changed the camshaft and flywheel,
bearings...
Gapped the points and valves.
I'm trying to start it but nothing. I got spark. I've tried spraying gas
or starter fluid into the...

'Kafer' Pierburg carbs by
Hal
I posted a few weeks ago that CIP had 'brand new german carbs' for a
ridiculously low price. Cheaper than the Bocar, and some 40 bucks less
than most other vendors.
I may just be having bad luck, but I think these 'new german carbs' are
crap. Sure, they say Kafer on the side and Pierburg on the...

'tight' ingnition on a bus by

I've got another situation with my '75 bus that is buggin' me.
When I am intending to start it and I slide the key into the ignition
and turn it, nothing happens until it sort of goes
'beyond' the 'start' position. In other words .. I turn it
to 'on' ... then I have to turn it REALLY HARD...

(again) electronic ignition by
Bart Bervoets
A local mechanic says it can be done on my bus,
extreme temperature bounces here cause a point system
to go fubar on various occasions.
Found a golf distributor (cheap!) which has inside a
little circuit board with an optocoupler.
From what i see i can easily adapt that to fit a...

Hi Group,
I know this topic comes back every now and then, even a few days ago Karls

I snapped off 2 of the 4 studs from the exhaust. The left upper stud with
about 3mm left and the right lower stud with about 1cm left.
I...
