2010 at the Worldwide Transportation Library by
Carl Rogers
Hi Viatologists,
2010 has been an interesting year for the Worldwide Transportation
Library (WWTL, http://wwtl.info)! Added to our collection of roads
and videos were compilations from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, New
York, Baja California, and Sonora. (I may be forgetting other
countries or...

Study: Roads are safer in urban areas
By Larry Copeland, USA TODAY
Your odds of dying in a motor vehicle crash vary dramatically because
of one simple thing: where you live.
The safest places to drive in the USA are Washington, D.C., and
Massachusetts. Among the most dangerous: Montana, Wyoming,...

Retrospect by
The Real Bev[_5_]
Prpmpted by an article on slashdot, I looked at my old posts to see what
I was doing a year ago.
I had asked what had happened to Scott en Aztlan. Somebody thought that
he had died. Apparently he was a regular contributor to chi.general,
which I couldn't find.
Anybody heard anything else?

car->house part 97 by
Brent[_4_]
The few long timers here will remember when I argued that much of what
applied to a private vehicle can be applied to a home.
Sure jaybird said it was 'just different'. Other folks said I was
'paranoid'. Yet others said it was an invalid 'slippery slope' argument.
However, now the council of...

speeding in passing lane by
Magnulus
The other day I was driving to the mall. I went down a road in the
rightmost lane. When I was approaching the intersection, I started
signalling, checked my mirror, and there was a big pickup off to the left.
Well, I thought this guy, being a bit over the speed limit would GET A CLUE
and slow...

car catches on fire by
Tim923
http://my.fit.edu/~tschmits/carfire.jpg
My brother sent me this picture of a car on fire at his work. The
driver noticed something wrong with the car and pulled into the
parking lot. No one hurt. How the heck does something like that
happen?

Is working on your car unhealthy? by
Laura Bush murdered her boy friend
Oil right out of the ground is probuly harmless but the oil and grease
used on cars has all sorts of additivies in it. In the last year i've
started to wear disposable gloves for messy jobs like oil changes or
greasing the front end.
Used to work without gloves and never had any trouble, and the...

Can out-of-state police pull you over? by
223rem
I was doing 80 on the Indiana toll road (speed limit 65 mph)
when I noticed a cop car ahead and slowed down to its speed of
about 70 mph.
Well, I soon noticed that the cop car had IL plates. Thinking
that he cant pull me over, I passed the cop car (on the left)
and was soon back to 80 mph. Was I...

GE Nighthawk Headlight Bulbs by
uniseriate
Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about GE's new Nighthawk
headlight bulb range. I saw them at the local Wal-mart and was
wondering about their performance. I looked at the bulb and verified
that there is no blue filter like on the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs.
However, the...

Winter driving tips by
Steve
My local newspaper just ran a story on winter driving, including these
tips, which I've seen in many other newspapers and magazines:
....Drive slower than usual.
....Plan more time for your trip.
....Dress appropriately for the cold.
....Slow down for turns.

The Justic system, the courts by
[email protected]
Who here thinks our Justic system is fair and "just"? Who here doesn't
agree?
For example from what I have observed. Why would the family cour
hearing use no Jury? All I saw was a Judge "partialness questionable",
Defendant, Prosecutor, no visitors (but myslef) lawyers (liars), a
social service...

Moron drivers by
Harry K
Two days ago watched a film clip of cars on a slick hill. The hill
wasn't that steep and was a wide city street - looked to be about 4
lanes wide with no uphill traffic that I saw. I thought I heard that
30 cars had done this, I know I saw at least 10 do it.
Every one was sliding down the curb...

so what do you do? by

.... when you realize its YOU that has road rage?
I've been lurking here for a while, only recently started posting. I've
read a lot of different POV's on the driving experience, and I'm realizing
a lot of these behaviors fit me.
I'm not into 'sloth'. I generally drive at or near the prevailing...

Passed a cop today by
Bill 2
In a 100 km/h zone, followed behind him at 100-105. Someone came on the
highway in front of him, and was driving 90-95, slowing down the cop, so I
went in the passing lane and passed the cop at 105. Nothing happened.
