Lawbreaking cyclists by
Mr. Benn[_6_]
I THOUGHT we were living in a democracy? A place where majority decision
rules? So let us consider cyclists. I have yet to hear of a cyclist that
rides according to the law. Every single one I see cuts through red lights
like a knife through butter. It is almost as if they do this to target...

Check oil when engine is hot or cold? by
[email protected]
On my 15 year old Accord, I get different dipstick readings when the
engine has been sitting overnight vs. checking 10 minutes or so after
the engine was running for a while.
Most probably due to settling of oil into the pan over long time
periods.
When is it best to check oil. In the morning after...

R-12 equivalent by
David Wahl
I have an 85 RX-7 and the weather here has started to get quite hot. I
just put a belt on the AC compressor and tried it out, as I expected it
blows hot air (maybe a tiny bit cooler but still too hot). I've heard
mixed things about replacement refridgerants but thought I would see
what others...

decent wide whitewall sought for 1992 Cadillac Brougham d'Elegance by
The Derfer[_2_]
First of all: NOT COKER. Their tire for P225/75R15 is only rated 540-
BB, and a "B" traction
rating means I'll slip and slide this classic American car, a 1992
Cadillac Brougham d'Elegance,
all over the place, especially when I move to the extraordinarily wet
Southern Florida circa
the end of this...

Hitch inversion theory by
Ad absurdum per aspera
Three times in the past week or so, I've noticed something I don't
recall seeing befo someone with a high-riding pickup or SUV who had
two to six inches of drop hitch -- installed upside down.
Two of them had a trailer on, and in the worst case, a flatbed behind a
Ford Excursion, the...

Is style and appearance copyrighted ? by
aniram
What is the intention of the latest Kia Amanti advertisement?
Does it try purposely to mislead people ? From the front, it just
looks like a Mercedes Benz car.
Computer software MS demands that no one comes close to their
trademarks. Can the car style and appearance be copyrighted?

Car for Aliens by
tom
We are a German family coming to the USA for vacation each year.
Four times we bought a car for the time of our vacation and sold it at
the end.
Now I am thinking about buying a car and store it at the end of the
vacation and use it again the next time, but I am uncertain about some
things:
Can I...

Oil Filter relocation by
David Wahl
I have a 1st gen RX-7 (1985 with a 12A) which my father bought at about
52k miles and I got it at 69k miles. It now has 81k on it. The issue is
that before he got it somebody broke the oil filter mount off the block
and relocated it to the right side of the radiator (see picture...

Adding motor oil to engine by
Sanjay Punjab
My accord with 130k is using between 1/4-1/2 quart of oil a month.
I was told by many that engines with this age typically do require a
top-off each month of motor oil. Is there some type of gadget that you
can attach to the top of the oil bottle to make measuring a bit
easier? Often I have to add...

Automotive floor jacks - bottle or floor jack by
Walter Cohen
I want to get one (at least) hydraulic jack to use if I need to change a
flat in my garage or driveway. The crappy standard equipment jacks that
come in a car I just don't trust.
What is better/easier to use for changing tires (or plain lifting up the
corner of a car) - a hydraulic bottle jack...

Mounting your own tires? by
Doc
I just discovered Harbor Freight stores recently and noticed they had
a tire mounting tool as well as a tire balancing tool.
If they work, it would sure represent quite a savings over time if I
mounted my own tires. Anyone ever used one of these and have a feel
for how well they work? I have an...

"Life Hammer" for breaking window glass too flimsy? by

I wanted to get myself one of those gadgets they sell for breaking the
glass in a car door if you're trapped in the car, e.g., in an accident.
I searched the Web and ended up ordering this:
http://www.5starshine.com/info-auto-emergency-tool.html
When it arrived and I opened the box, my first...

Driving With Two Brakes by
Neil[_2_]
What are the dangers of driving with two brakes? I just found out that when
my ex-wife took my teenage son's car in to be repaired last week, they said
there was a leak in the rear wheel cylindar, which was causing brake fluid
to go onto the brake shoes, causing there to be no rear brakes. She...
