A Helpful tip by
Mike West
Well I hope it might be for some anyway.
I have been rebuilding my chopped 66 bug. I was given a complete 67 Bug by a
friend. I sold the motor to one guy, traded the great body it had to a shop
for a new adjustable fron end with disc brakes and 2 inch dropped spindles,
4 lug rear drums and I put...

I hate intermittentcy............ by
westfaliaguy
Hello again folks... So, just got through the 500k oil change and have
been driving it and up until a day or two ago everything was fine.
However now you'll be driving along at around 2500 rpm in any gear and
the motor will occasionally try to crap out. It's extremely
intermittent and it's driving...

valve cover bails by
Mel P.
When flip the bails to remove the valve cover, should they swing down or up?
I'm wondering if I put them on incorrectly when I rebuilt my engine.

front disc brake problem by
[email protected]
I recently bought a 74 std beetle. It had some brake problems, so I
replaced the master cylinder because it was leaking. Then I just
installed a front disc brake kit. I bled the brakes until the fluid ran
clear. My problem is that the pedal only depresses about an inch, and
on my way into town the...

Hello to all...I'm new to the group...

Tires by
Dave Tosi
Hi guys,
I have a 1971 standard beetle that needs tires. I want to get a more down
front attitude by having different size tires front and rear.
Would 215/70R-15 fit under the fender of the stock rear suspension? It does
have an anti roll bar installed.
Also would 185/60R-15 alter my...

79 vert for sale? by
D&LBusch
I'm thinking of selling my 79 vert and need a suggestion as to the best
method/least hassels. It was completely restored 7 years ago - a very high
quality job. With two small exceptions the car is perfect. 1. There is a
small oil drip ( I know, VWs always mark their spot) and 2. the control...

Battery drain - because of fuel injection! by
(Just) Allan
Hi folks... I have a 1982 air cooled, fuel injected transporter van.
For a couple of years the battery will go flat after a few days. I
inserted a multimeter between the battery and one lead, removed all
fuses and made sure nothing else was powered (it has no clock for
instance).
Sure enough,...

Quick Dizzy Question by
Juper Wort
Hey folks
I have retrieved a vac dizzy, 043 905 205 from a crate, and need to check
for wear. No sideways play on shaft, but gear at bottom wiggles on the axis
of the retaining pin, but not side to side.
The vac advances & holds well.
Does this sound like a good unit ?

Book "VW Beetle - a collector's guide" by
Remco
Hi all
During a recent visit to Amazon, I came across a book titled "VW Beetle
- a collector's guide", ISBN 1-899870-26-1. I got the second edition,
just over $10 secondhand.
This book might be totally old hat to most here, but to a relative noob
like myself, it is a very interesting read.
It is...

Removing EGR by
Mel P.
I've removed the EGR system from my 77 FI Bug. I plugged the related lines
and connections.
My questions is the electrical plug. Do I just leave it unplugged or
does it need to be jumped, etc.?

Air Cleaner Falling Apart by
[email protected]
I have a 68 bug with the original (or original style) air cleaner on my
Bug. You know, the oil based one with the "wings" on either side.
I was doing the usual maintenance stuff today which included putting
some fresh oil in there when I noticed an unusual amount of debris. At
first I nearly...

Did you notice ? by
Wild Bill Tucker
Since gasoline prices have sky rocketed
the number of ACVWs that are on the road now? Maybe it's just me but
everyday I see more VWs out and about that aren't local club members.
They must have been garaged are hidden in a barn or something. Oh well
..just wondering if anyone else had seen more...

Floor Pan Repair by

Recently I was unable to obtain a floor pan right rear quarter--the good

I need to get this project completed, have resorted to one of the smaller
Brazilian pans, where they are put down over the edges of the old pan....

Front beam rebuild question by
Remco
Just got back from a business trip and got back to rebuilding my front
beam on my 72 standard.
Stripped the old beam down and am getting ready to paint the new beam.
Before I re-assemble the thing, I have a couple of questions:
The guy that sold me the new (well, to me "new" - it is used) beam...

Oil air filter by
Joao Eliseu
I removed the air filter and I delivered it to an ACVW guru. He worked on a VW dealer
for more then 20 years as mechanic chief. He putted the air filter in a liquid for
24 hours and cleaned it. A lot of dirt comes out of the top part of the filter.
The paint got a lot of bubbles. Not the factory...
