Clutch Questions by Jeff Strickland
I am starting to notice on decelleration a vibration in a narrow speed range between 25 and 40 mph. I am also noticing slight movement in the gear shfter on accelleration, but this has been this way for a very long time and I thought until now that it was more or less normal. Bentley says I have...

2002 325 - replace standard wheels with 17" sport wheels by Brandon
I am looking to buy a used 3 series. Found a very clean 2002 325 sedan. Looks good all around but (forgive me) I ****HATE***** the base wheels that come with the car. They look very generic. I really like the sport wheels that come with the 2004-2005 325, and even the sport wheels that came...

M50 broken timing chain woes by John Burns
My techie's 93 525iX ground to a halt earlier today. Starter spins the engine really fast and our first guess is a broken timing chain, had that backed up by my mate's BMW independent mechanic. I've never heard of an M50 breaking a chain before, it's only done 117k and there was no noise to...

E90 difference in gauges? by anoop
I recently took a look at the 328i and 335i E90 sedans. On the 335, it looked like the MPG gauge was not there. On the 328i, there was no temperature gauge. Why the difference between the two? Anoop

Buick Encore by [email protected]
The Buick Encore was new for 2013, and has been carried over largely unchanged since then. It's a subcompact crossover with some luxury cues that competes with vehicles like the Audi Q3, Mercedes GLA, MINI Countryman, and the BMW X1. Europeans have been buying Encores for the past year, but under a...

Smokers' Package? by Justin[_9_]
If a used/certified BMW has the smokers' package, does that usually mean it was previously owned by a smoker?

Miata Mx5 - BMW Z4 Compare by AM
Hi, Many reviews of the Z4 - a great roadster in its own right - write that the car has a tendancy to understeer and for a sports car enthusiast lacks the feel that translates the road through the steering wheel. The new MX5 which obviously in a different price bracket, is more of a hardcore...

That square thing in bumper by [email protected]
What is the purpose of that small (2-inch square) indent in the rear bumpers of BMWs? It's the border that is indented (the interior of the square being flush with the bumper surface)and it looks like it could be punched out.

E30 driving lights by James[_11_]
I'm getting my E30 318is resprayed and thought it might be a good time to install fog lights. There are two types of fog lights on ebay shipped from Hong Kong, and the prices are lower than the genuine BMW ones. Has anyone tried either of them, or have any comments on non-genuine BMW fog...

Identifying Colour by Dave Plowman (News)
The handbook says the colour is given on the front page of the service book. Not on mine - nor is there a space for it. It also says the colour code is on a plate beside the commission number on the left hand wing under the bonnet, but all I can identify is the various weights. All nicely obscured...

BMW to change model designations even further from actual displacement? by [email protected]
Once upon a time, you could look at the back of a trunk lid of a BMW and come up with a pretty fair idea of what sat under its hood. For example, a 320i was a 3 Series with a fuel-injected, 2.0-liter engine, a 328i was a 3 Series with a fuel-injected, 2.8-liter engine and a 328Ci was a two-door 3...

Windshield wiper not working by Ulf
My drivers side windshield wiper stopped working today. Being in a hurry I didn't bother removing all the snow and ice from the windshield before driving away, and then when I tried using the wipers only the one on the passenger side worked. After stopping I realized the one on the drivers side was...

Oil leak through head gasket - tightening head bolts... by Ben Martin
I am going to tighten my head bolts as a possible easy fix for an oil leak on a very high mileage 1990 325is. It seems to be leaking between cyclinder 4 and 5. The leak is on the exhaust side. One tech recommended tightening the 4 head bolts just in the area of the leak. Another tech recommeded...
