Flywheel "scorch" marks by
[email protected]
The flywheel on my 81 chevy 350 has dark "scorch" marks on it from an
oil leak. the surface is otherwise flat and smooth. Can I use some 600
grit emery cloth on an orbital sander and sand the whole surface until
the marks are gone or should I have it resurfaced? This is an old work

Mazda Trans Weirdity by
M.M.
My daughter's 99 Mazda Protege with auto trans has started acting up
when in overdrive. Between about 40 and 50 mph it will suddenly either
downshift or shift into neutral for about a half second and then go back
into OD. It's hard to tell exactly what's happening but it suddenly revs
up and feels...

94 Ranger Error Codes by
[email protected]
Hello, The 4 liter V-6 boggs when you quickly press the accelerator. I
would look to the accel. pump on a carburated engine
but this is EEc-IV fuel injected. I ran an error code check .
key on-engine off:
the only code was 998which is "Hard fault present"
so I went to engine running test
the code...

Cavalier head gasket issue ever addressed? by
[email protected]
I posted this in the wrong group yesterday so sorry if anyone sees a
cross-post.
I was just wondering if GM ever resolved the problem with the 2.2
cavaliers blowing head gaskets? I have a 95 that has gone through a
gasket already and I may be looking for another cavalier in the future.
I'm just...

New engine: starts from second time by
Karlsson-on-the-Roof
Dear All,
I'm a newbie in the automotive technology but I'm trying to learn things. In
the meantime I have a problem: the lower part of the engine (crankcase,
cylinders, etc) on my Buick Century 1996 was recently changed. It runs
perfectly, but it would only start from the second time if the car...

2001 Impala: what whines in a certain speed range? by
Simon
2001 Impala base 46K miles.
Recently developed a kind of whining noise from the front. The whine can
only be heard in the speed range of about 20 - 30 mph. The noise stays even
after foot gets off the gas pedal until the speed drops below ~20mph. What's
wrong? Need a big fix?
Thanks!

Help requested - understanding Japanese tire markings by
John S.
Yesterday I purchased a used Japanese import - a 2001 Toyota
Prius hybrid car.
It has Yokohama tires, steel belted radials 165/65 R15 81S
OK so far; that gives me the profile and size information, and
the load carrying and speed rating.
I would like to know the safe maximum cold inflation...

Have an 85 S10, 4 spd manual transmission. Got it 2 months ago. I ONLY WANT
TO GET 1 MORE MONTH USE OUT OF THIS TRUCK TO DO SOME WORK. SO:
1. It ran fine for first month.
2. Now it's hard to put into gear while driving. (with car off it'll go into
any gear easily).
3. It's easy to get into...

GM Door Handle EXPERTS!? by

I have owned an 89 Cutlass Supreme for over 5 years now. When I got it
I was told that I would have to replace my door handles eventually
because they ALWAYS break. Same with the ones that are used in coupe
version of Buick Regals, Pontiac Grand Prixs and Chevy Luminas. From
years 1988-1996. You...
