I'm a lucky guy by Dennis Wik
I was adjusting the valves and got a big surprise on #3. Retaining clip broken off and the rocker could slide from seat to center of shaft. Nothing damaged. I put new clip on and continued. New heads about 1500 miles ago...not rebuilt. Anyone else had this happen? The rockers were quite loose...

steering box big nut by Joao Eliseu
I was checking one more time my steering box to trace the knocking noise. Looks like that the drop arm moves a little up and down making the noise. Can this be solved by adjusting the big nut on the steering box? I have already adjusted the one on the top. If yes, how can I do that? What is the...

Petrol Fumes by John Birrell
Hi All, I regularly get petrol fumes inside my beetle ( 1973 1200cc) ...always when I fill about a 1/3 tank or over, and also going on and off round-abouts. I assume there must be a leak in the tank but I can't see any evidence. There is no smell of fumes from under the bonnet or the boot lids -...

Upper Shock Mount Stipped by zungguzeng
I stripped the upper shock mount on my 76 bus. (Pretty new to this stuff.) There is no nut on the backside and very little space behind it, not enough to run a nut behind it. Does anyone have any ideas? A source for a metric tap that will work? Thanks for the help. --AH

74 Super and the brakes that go with it by halcyonic88
I have a 74 Super and brake problems that go with it. I'm still learning and reading but haven't found anything that matches my problem. After replacing the front wheel cylinders and bleeding the lines, I noticed that my brake shoes don't move that much when applying the pedal to the fullest. Very...

73 bus engine problems: valve way out of adjustment by [email protected]
I adjusted valves 2 weeks ago. yesterday, I had extreme power loss. I opened up the valve cover, and cylinder # 3 (front left of engine) had about 1/4" clearance on intake valve. It was firing out the carb, and pushing fuel/ air out of carb.

Westy Pop Top Canvas Question by Fish
I have a 68' Westy. The previous owner put a new canvas on and in my opinion did a crappy job. The canvas is not centered on the top and does not appear to be attached very well to the top of the vehicle. I can easily see how the top of the canvas is attached with staples to the wooden trim pieces...
