What terminology means a soft ride? by micky
I don't need a new car now but I will and I want to understand terminology. I want a car with soft ride so I will not feel the bumps. One article refered to base, touring, performance and R/T (or Super Sport?) suspension. And I thought that was the key, but the topic went to body roll....

Can I replace my 185 tires with 195? by Martin Pison

How to refill a leaking Sam's club "Michelin" floor jack by Comboverfish
Way back when, in one or more newsgroups, I suggested the blue 3.5 ton quick rise jack as sold by Sam's Club, to those who were looking for a cheap, functional, and strong floor jack for home use. I wanted to offer some tips I recently discovered when confronted with the problem of fixing or...

Stuck passenger door lock (1998 Mercury Grand Marquis LS) by Jc Maxwell
Since the keyless entry system stopped working last year, I've had to use the old-fashioned keyed locks, and number pad, to access my 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis. Driver door and trunk locks work flawlessly, but the passenger door lock is uncooperative. It seems as if it only works when the...

Once the readiness monitors are set, if you never do a drive cycle, is it possible for a DTC to be triggered? by Arlen Holder
Curiosity question: If you (a) fill the readiness monitors, and you have no code at that moment, and then, if you (b) NEVER go through the steps of the Federal Test Procedure Drive Cycle, is it even possible for a DTC to be triggered? This is a strange question, which perhaps nobody knows the...

what's the condenser for on a mechanical voltage regulator? by [email protected]
Just tried my '66 GTO's mechanical voltage regulator on my friend's '69 Firebird and it started charging his battery again. Even though he had bought a new voltage regulator a month or so ago. (And then an alternator.) His does not have the condenser installed on the voltage regulator like mine...

How does "salvage title" work anyway? by Arlen Holder
How does "salvage title" work anyway? A neighbor got rear ended such that her five thousand dollar 2000 model year vehicle was "totaled" and yet still driveable such that she's keeping it. The insurance company gave her two choices: 1. They pay her five thousand and they keep the car 2. They pay...

Cylinder order for 2009 Mazda CX7 by AK[_2_]
I recently had an ignition coil replaced on cylinder #2 on my 2009 Mazda CX7. I found that it is a fairly simple job. I need to find out how the cylinders are ordered. I have found a very wide range of prices for those coils. From $70 for one to $50 for four. Surely the quality can't be the...

Ford's "Easy Fuel" capless fuel filler? by CWLee
I just learned that the 2010 (and perhaps earlier) Ford Explorers, and other Ford models, have what Ford calls "Easy Fuel" capless fuel fillers. As near as I can tell, instead of unscrewing a cap, one inserts the gas pump nozzle into an opening which automatically moves aside for fueling, and...

how common were automobiles in 1890? by [email protected]
The 1889-90 flu pandemic was the first pandemic to spread around the world, thanks to railway and steamships. Were automobiles just for the rich elite way back then?

Chevrolet 428?? by [email protected]
Yes it was in the Bonneville. You could get a dealer option/install for your Firebird, the Formula 400 cars in 68 and I think in 69 as well. I've seen a 68 Formula Firebird with a 428 Ram Air 4 speed at a car show and the owner told me that it was installed by the dealer.
