Adios! by
The Busman
Sold my 63 Camper to my brother and find myself without a VW for the first
time in 21 years. Just don't have the time or energy any more. Wanted to
wish y'all good luck with your ACVWs as I head out. Take care!

Heater boxes and clear air tubes. by
VFW
I take the clear air tubes off and plug the shroud outlets. With
Gerber's baby food jar lids.
My local mechanic sez it just fries the valve cover gaskets with heat
from the heater boxes.
Wouldn't it be better to use that air to cool the cylinders that the
heater boxes? Or should I just go to...

Selling a 57 Beetle.
Doesn't run, I never worked on it. Found it stored indoors for 15
years, bought it, and moved it to indoor storage for another 10
years.
Original engine, looks like original interior, but it's shot. Gas
heater under the front cover. Some maniac painted it Mountain...

6Volt distributor conversion? by
Mel[_3_]
I converted a 1300, 6 volt engine to 12 volt ( crank, flywheel, generator,
etc).
I would think that the distributor does not need to be changed. The
points, which are basically contacts are probably the same regardless of the
voltage.
Am I right or do I need to change part or all of the...

Gunk on Outside of Carb? by
susansms
I'm just starting up my 67 Beetle after a long winter's nap. The car
starts fine, runs for about five minutes, and dies. Can't keep her
running after warmup.
I notice a lot of reddish-brown gunk on the outside of the carb
(30/31) where the gasket is. Does this mean it is leaking gas?
Also have...

I left the engine lid off by
VFW
I was working on the engine and sometimes it's just easier to take the
"hood" off. So since the weather is so nice , I thought why not leave it
off. You should see the double takes. Many don't see enough Ghias to
even know the engine is in the back and air-cooled.
I just hope nobody steals the...

Setting crank end play by
Mel[_3_]
I understand the whole process accept on how do you move it to see the gap.
Do you hit the belt pulley with a mallet or pry the flywheel with
screwdrivers?

General Question by
John[_28_]
This applies to all petrol engines as well as VW,s I think. A small ( or
larger) cloud of smoke on start up which clears immediately and then doesnt
repeat for months or longer.Engine uses minimal amounts of oil between
changes. I,m told its leaking valve stem seals. Any one verify that or...

Victory! by
BryanUT
I got the 64 Bug started. I knew I'd win.
I had forgotten how good a VW smells when it is running. And that
lovely sound.

Fail by
BryanUT
So after 5 short years, I decide it is time to fire up the old 64 VW
bug (I couldn't ride, cuz I had looked at a bottle of tequila).
New battery, baking soda to clean the connections, got the old AM
radio on in the car, hit the starter, everything goes dead.
Call my VW guru friend Tony, he says,...

bad times for Jan and Kidd by

Hi guys.

seems to have come to an end. Kidd and I have gone through some tough
times economically and other external influences like the athmosphere at
my work has caused both of us to close up and get depressed. Somewhere...

I'm having a so-called "Further" devotee over to viewing my '71
