Tyre Width by
John[_28_]
The only thing I find a pain with radials on my Squareback is harder riding
qualities than cross plies. Thinking a wider tyre may have more "compliance"
has anyone played with wider tyres on standard rims?. Probably fronts would
be the most problematic. ( standard shocks, not gas)

obscure van q. by
VFW
it's the handle on the sliding door. I found another handle that I
happened to have a key for, sooooo, I have in the past just un-screwed
the inner plastic handle to free the outer handle and the square shaft.
But this one ("71 panel) has some sort of "ring" around the inner part
and it's not...

Tires, How Long Will They Last? by
Jim Ed
The tires on my Beetle are getting old but, the tread on them is still
good.
I read somewhere that they should be replaced about every six years
and no later than every ten years regardless of tread depth.
There are some fine cracks on the inside of some of these tires.
I got a set of the stock...

Mr. Bob Hoover... by
[email protected][_1_]
Has anyone heard from Mr. Hoover lately? His last blog update was in
February, and I haven't seen anything from him here lately...
I think I can probably speak on behalf of the masses in saying that we
hope he's doing as best as he can given the circumstances he's
facing.....

Stainless steel exhaust studs - are they a good idea? by
Bluedc
I have my engine out at the moment and some of the exhaust studs are
looking a bit rough so I intend to replace them. Some of the VW shops
in the UK sell stainless steel exhaust studs - I just wanted to see if
anyone had any thoughts on these before I go ahead and swap all mine
over.
Thanks
Will

VFW

A Word about EMPI by
Cletus
In Jan I bought one of the 34EPC carb kits from EMPI (Chinese Weber ICT's)
at the local foreign parts house where I get all my VW stuff. I had
300-350$ oked to spend on my toy from my wife, maybe I could go up to 500
with lots of persuasion. I looked hard at ads on Samba and Ebay and online...

Rear Disc Brake by
Ivan[_9_]
I have a Karmann Guia Coupe 74, last Saturday I could have time and
install the rear disc kit from CB Performance.
I found Eric Huelsmann's instructions on the web who was very
helpfull.
Now I have a problem, the pedal goes too long, very long.
I bleed the system twice but it stills the same.

R.I.P. Joe Vittone by
[email protected]
I found out via another forum, that my good friend Joe Vittone passed
away February 23rd. For any of you that don't know who Joe was, if you
have ever modified a VW to make it a little faster, handle a little
better, or just wanted to personalize your Bug, you owe the
opportunity to do so, to Joe....

What is a Good Synthetic Oil to Use? by
Jim Ed
I want to start using synthetic oil in my 1973 VW Beetle's T-1 engine.
What about Castrol 5 W50 for Summer time or would Quaker State be
better?

FAILED Emissions! by
Mel P.[_2_]
I go this every two years with my 77 FI Bug.
Anyone know either how I can test Hydrocarbons at home through some
indirect test? The NJ limit is 300 (units?), they measured 1600!
If I change plugs, change oil, adjust timing adjust valves will I pass?
