Brake problem and possible solution by Tuomas
Hello! T34 has been sitting a long time (no-one knows how long) and its brakes stick if I brake, at three wheels: Left front wheel brake works as it should. If I open the bleed screw of a stuck brake, it expels a bit of brake fluid and then the wheel spins again, i.e.. the brake itself works...

Super Beetle Frame problem? by OldIron
Hello I am looking at my '73 SB vert, and the frame head in front is pretty torched. The body is in quite good shape, though... Any ideas on what/how to replace a SB frame-head? I am a decent welder, but was curious if any had attempted this feat. Also, does anyone know if/where to...

looking to ID 1100 engine by Mike
Have an old 1100 (?) engine I was looking to find the vintage and specs for. It has the fuel pump side mounted and generator stand cast into case. The number stamped near the generator is 1-1,133,298 I found this resource http://www.thebugshop.org/bsrbyrs.htm

Bailey Channel in T3 by John[_28_]
Eventually got sick of having to replace miserable quality window channel every 2-3 years because the fabric rots away etc etc. Our local rubber supplier had some all rubber ( using the term rubber loosely) channel with the flock lined sections for the window. Fitted perfectly, the base fits...

replacing ignition switch by Mel P.[_2_]
Can I do it w/o removing the steering wheel? Looks like there's a screw underneath that may allow me to remove the cover. -- Mel "I've got calluses, from all those nights, spent playin' a Telecaster, 'till

horn ground contact through lever? by Sam[_10_]
I'm fixing my horn on my '65 Ghia. I've troubleshooted by horn (problems included poor connection on the jumper to the steering box and a bad relay), and I'm 99% of the way to getting the horn to beep correctly when I press the horn button. The last problem I'm facing is that the chrome horn lever...

longer intake manifold studs? by Scott
I've recently switched intakes and now the studs in the heads that bolt down the intake manifolds are too short (they used to always be a little bit too short, but now they're so short that the nut only goes on about half way). Anyhow, pulled one out by double-nutting it so they aren't stuck too...

Bought a project type34, -65 by Tuomas
Hello everyone! There was awfully silent here (or my news server is missing a lot of news) so something potentially interesting to fill the void. ;) Actually I bought it a month ago but I bought it from Germany (mobile.de, wasn't cheap either, 5500 euros) and it took a long time to get it...

O.E.M. Bellows Thermostat Still Available by Jim Ed
There are some bellows thermostats still available that are made in Germany. I do not know if they are made by Wahler. It fits the '64--'71 Bug, Vert, Bus, Thing, Karmann (1200-1600cc type 1 engine). I think it is the one that opens at 65-70C.

Plugs and wipers by Olli Lammi[_2_]
Hello! ------ Two questions in one: 1) I changed the plugs after 12000 km had passed with the old ones (Bosch W8AC to Bosch W8AC). The number 2 cylinder had a bit different color in the old plug. (order 1-2-3-4 in the pic below) http://olammi.iki.fi/olammi/tulpat20100803.jpg

Engine Temperature Questions -- Help Please! by Jim Ed
If the left peashooter tail pipe is installed too far in next to the heat riser pipe inside the stock muffler, will it cause the Type I engine to run hot? Similarly, if it is installed too far from the heat riser pipe in the stock muffler, would it cause the engine to run cold in Winter? * Any...

How 'bout a great engine stand design? by A VFW[_2_]
I'm looking for a design that does everything. Hold the short block for assembly, hold the whole works and keeps the big socket on for the flywheel torqueing. And lets you add a bell-housing for turning an engine over for a compression test. Oh, and it would be nice if this all could attach to a...

What's this jet? by griff
I had a spare 34Pict-3 apart today and the main jet had "104" stamped on the top it. 1) I thought jets increased in increments of 2.5. Is that not the case? 2) If that's size, it seems small for a stock 1600 doesn't it? Any idea where that number 104 comes from? cheers,
