what causes shaking? by
[email protected]
You might know that I drive a 82 Rabbit pickup gasser. It shakes when
I drive it. It is directly proportional to road speed. At low speed,
I can see the wheel turn slightly back and forth on its own. At high
speed the whole truck shakes. At illegal speeds, the truck shakes
violently. It has...

Awww Crap. This is why I need a Manual by
The Lull
Hey All,
I'm a relatively new owner of a 2000 Jetta, Manual, 2.0. I've been
cruising this group every now and then just to check and see if there
are any problems I know about and can help with, OR problems that I
should know about and (hopefully) prevent in my own car. I've noticed
that several...

Where has everyone gone? by
tonyw
Hi,
rec.autos.makers.vw.watercooled used to be quite an active group.
Where has the discussion moved to? When I search for alternative
groups for watercooled VWs, I find mostly very narrow groups that, for
instance discuss modifications, or discuss just one model of VW,
rather than the more...

A Few Questions and Observations by
[email protected]
1. Why is it that individuals come here describing conditions that
very clearly stem from poor/no maintenance? The Owner's Manual
intervals are not suggestions, nor are they optional. Not if one
wishes to keep a safe, reliable vehicle past the say.... 50,000 mile
mark. Written as one who has taken...

Changing struts by
[email protected]
I have a 1984 VW Rabbit. I will be changing all 4 struts. I do have
access to a spring compressor. Is one needed to change the struts on
this car or can the strut assembly be changed without compressing the
springs?
Any tips for success?
Thank you,
ted

ukdodger via CarKB.com
I know I'm getting a spark but how do I know it's a good enough one? I do
have a problem with getting my Passat to run smoothly and I have already
found a problem with the Rotor arm which has been replaced. The Ignition coil
tests Ok using an ammeter but how can I test the leads apart from...

1992 Volkswagen (VW) Jetta Diesel TDI Overheat Coolant Leak Issue by
Rand-E
Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to post a problem I had experienced with my 1992 VW Jetta
TDI, and what I finally figured the solution to be.
I read an awful lot of posts regarding engine overheat w/diesels, and
almost every one was pointing to cracked head gasket... I also read in
a few posts that...

Some Disturbing Trends in Dub Land........ by
Sills
I've been a VW guy for many, many years; since the 1960's when I was in
grade school. I thought I would point out some very disturbing trends I
have noticed. They bother me so much that I have considered leaving VW for
a different brand of car. The trends I speak of are admittedly of my...

Have You Folks Read This? by

This, Mechanic’s Tale: VW, Heal Thyself? This sort-of
reflects my feelings right now with my beloved W8 having
undiagosed problems starting last fall. Before this all
occurred, I thought I would be a loyal VW customer for life,
but my car's now hideous mpg (and the basic uncertainty about
its...

why won't my diesel start??? by

Hello, All!
My 81 rabbit diesel won't start and this has me perplexed. It was running
beautiful when I parked it. Then, I didn't use it for a week. Now, it
turns over but won't start. The glow plug light is working, I assume they
are as well. The battery is fully charged. Fuel full. What...
