1996 Integra dash clock dead, head unit dead by Chewy
I got the car with a factory head unit and an aftermarket Pioneer CD changer installed. I replaced the factory head unit with a Pioneer CD player head unit. I did not hook the CD changer to the new head unit. I bought a Pioneer to Acura wiring harness adapter for the new head unit and soldered...

Brake pedal traavel after caliper replacement by [email protected]
I just had the rear calipers replaced on my '95 civic si. I immediately noticed when braking that my brake pedal seemed to sink about twice as far to the floor as it used to. I've owned this car since new and have never experienced this much brake pedal travel. The e-brake also pulls all the way...

valves or pinging? by chibitul
Hi, how can I tell the difference between valve misadjusment and pinging? next time I fill up I am going to try higher octane, 93 instead of 87, if the noise goes away I conclude it is pinging, if the noise remains I think it must be the valves. is this logic correct or faulty? thanks

gas tank mistery: 3 gallon missing by chibitul
Hi, 1997 Civic LX, 5 speed, US model. The owner's manual says my gas tank has 11.9 US Gal. Each time the needle reached the EMPTY line, I refilled and usually I put 8.5-9 gallons of gas. This time I wanted to try higher octane (to troubleshoot a pinging problem) and I decided to run just a little...

ignition timing question by chibitul
hi, I just want to check someting: suppose the car has distributor-style ignition (not electronic!) and there is no knock sensor (1997 Civic LX) If there is carbon build-up, and ignition occurs too early (due to higher compression ratio), using a higher octane should help, right? changing timing...

why short the service check connector when setting timing? by chibitul
I followed the instructions step-by-step to check the ignition timing in my 1997 Civic LX. It was maybe 1/2 degree out of spec, I set it where it should be. Now, I want to know why you should jumper that service check connector when you do this? what happens if you don't jumper this...

Identified the PCV valve! by chibitul
1997 Civic LX Manual. I couldn't locate the PCV valve before. Finally, a few days ago I got lucky, the Sun was shining at the right angle and I was looking around to clean something and saw that damn blue thing! Now please tell me how do you get a needle-nose pliers in there o pinch the hose to...

how long do brake pads last? by chibitul
I feel like I'm stirring the pot a little bit. I know this is a tough question... anyway, for a manual car, driving in the suburbs (not New York like traffic jam, but also not interstate highway all day long), you know, the usual 5-10 miles to work every day, groceries, gym, shopping, doctor, etc....

spark plug wires: old but under 10kOhms by chibitul
Hi, I just check the spark plug wires on my newly purchased 1997 Civic: they are from 1997, probably the OEM wires, and they all measured under 10kOhms. I will also look tonight with the engine running to see if I notice any "sparks" around the wires, but I was wondering if I should replace those...

Civic LX 97, LED on the RADIO, what is it? by chibitul
Got this 97 Civic LX, AM/FM (no cassette) but there is an OEM Single Disc CD-PLAYER next to the cup holders (stupid!!!). anyway, on the AM/FM/Clock unit, there is an LED above the "CLOCK" button and to the right of "6" button. It is shown in the Owner's manual, but I coudn't find it's meaning. It...

Free TECHRON and maybe gas rebates? by chibitul
Hi, I never used Techron before, but everyone claims it is the best fuel system cleaner. You can get two 12oz cans free from AutoZone; and you don't have to cut UPC by the way :) I am waiting for my tank to become almost empty and use this stuff. BTW: some sites claim that you have to put the...

too late for synthetic? by chibitul
My 2001 Civic LX manual transmission has almost 60k miles. I think the original engine oil was special because the dealership refused to change it until I had about 7500 miles. Then I changed the oil every 5000-6000 miles, I figured my driving is between normal (10k) and severe (5k). Anyway, I...

speedometer by chibitul
Guys, this is the last question for this weekend, I promise! 1997 Civic LX Manual. The speedometer seems to indicate more than the actual speed. Maybe 10 miles too much, but I haven't check with my other car yet (will do it very soon though). Mileage is correct though, tires/rims are the OEM size....

unplug the spark-plug: error code or not? by chibitul
Hi, To make sure all 4 cylinders are running, I unplugged the high voltage wire from each spark plug (one a a time, not all at once). Each time the idle RPM dropped a little bit, so I said "OK, each cylinder must be firing properly". However, I drove later to AutoZone and asked them to check the...

1997 Civic LX Compression by chibitul
Hi, I had my mechanic check the compression on a 1997 Civic LX, he said it's fine. when I picked up the car, I got the printed results: all 4 cylinders 160 psi (give or take 1 psi). The mechanic wasn't there, and the cashier didn't know the spec values. From the message the mechanic left on my...
