156 start problems ?! by
Canonian
Hi,
Last week, for the 2nd time in a few months, my 156 didn't start at once.
The start motor was running, the distribution belt was running, no error
lights shown on display, but the engine didn't start.
I waited a few hours and tried again, but still with no result. Then I
decided to keep the...

Odd noise by
R C Nesbit
The 156 1.9 JTD had started making a very odd noise.
Started yesterday, under heavy throttle, a sort of
shhhshhsshshs noise, best I can describe it is like the
noise of waves receding on a pebble beach.
Only happens under heavy throttle, neutral or slight
acceleration there is no problem.
So,...

dj
Hi all,
I need to buy some roof bars for 166 so I can transport my bicycles and I
can't find a compatible boot bike rack.
Cooks Motor Spares (
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/cooksmotorspares/page18.html ) sell roof bars
compatible which they say are compatible with AR 166's really cheaply
compared to...

Well, that's the wipers done by
SteveH
Finally got round to fitting the new wiper motor to the 155. What an
absolute pain in the arse job that was.
Quite tricky to set up so they don't hit the bonnet or fly off the
driver's side of the windscreen, too. And what were Alfa thinking of
with the controls? - only one speed plus a 3-setting...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4636244067
However, before buying an Alfa 156 I went on confused.com and decided

Now I have the reg number it is coming out at 1100 quid, is it because...

Workshop manual Spider series 4 by
Alfaspider
Hi fellow alfisti,
A few weeks back I got access to a workshop manual for the spider series 3
(with the rubber spoiler) and series 4 spider. Unfortunately it was just on
two-sided plain paper and it is no longer free available as far as I know.
In the past weeks I've scanned it (almost 700 pages)...

Way over-priced according to Parkers, and they've had it on sale for

WHAT?? cruise control not standard !!?? by
SS
Is that right - cruise control is an option on the Alfa 156?
I'd have expected a car of that class to come with that feature straight out
of the box - yet the AR website shows it as an option..

Can't get cooler than a Kwik Fit fitter by
Pete[_1_]
I have know for years that "life's a gas".
I have also know that after having paid AR
to re-gas my air-con I was not looking forward
to parting with a similar amount again.
However, with this year's "global warming week"
upon us I was sweltering in the 28deg heat.
Kwik Fit offered to re-gas my...

So *that* is what the whining noise was! by
R C Nesbit
Started on the 156jtd on Saturday, a whining noise, raising
and dropping with engine revs.
Thought:
"I'll take it to a man who can on Monday to find out what
it is"
Today, took the dogs for a walk (their mad hour hareing
around the forest) and on the way back stopped at the local
7-11 for a...

Alfa 164 ABS Warning by
D & J Merrylees
Hi,
I have a 1990 Alfa 164 3.0 V6, and the ABS warning light on the dash comes
on intermittently after a recent WOF check.
Self check is OK when turning ignition on, and after starting the car. Light
comes on while driving after 5-10 minutes. No other warning lights come on.
On the same day of...

Alfa 164 workshop manual or wiring diagram by
Emjay
Hello folks!
It seems almost impossible to get hold of a workshop manual or wiring
diagram for my Alfa 164 2.0 TS.
Anyone have any clue where I should start looking. I've already tried
EB Spares in the UK?
Many thanks

156 2.5 V6 Spark plugs? by
[email protected]
Can anybody provide me with details on spark plugs required for the
156 2.5 V6? From what I could gather so far it looks like it takes
either the PFR6B (Platinum) or the BKR6EIX (Iridium) from NGK. Can
anyone confirm this or give me details on any other brands? What brand
is fitted as standard?

Light bulbs by
GT[_12_]
The 156 takes H1 and H7 bulbs, both 55w. Are car headlights like house
ceiling lights - when not bright enough, can we fit brighter bulbs? I see
some 100w bulbs on eBay, but are there potential heat or fuse or other
problems associated with the wrong wattage bulbs?
Now, I know that headlights...
