transmission filling by Seth Graham
What's the secret to transferring fluid from the bottle to the transmission without turning myself into an environmental hazard? Muir says to have the local garage do it, Bentley says to have the dealer do it. They wisely suggest to only drain the transmission "if you are properly equipped...

my '66 is back!! by Howard Rose
GLJ is finally back from repair, looking as good as new the wing is a repro from VW Heritage (UK)... but a very good one, the fit and quality is spot on. I tried to get a NOS one, but it was almost impossible, and far too expensive (over UKŁ900 for a pair) the front quarter was carefully panel...

brake problems on 74 super beetle by halcyonic88
I'm having some problems on a 74 Super that we purchased a few months back. The brake pedal drops down quite far before any braking action happens. So far I've adjusted the brakes, and bled the brakes. This seemed to help a little bit, but still having the problem. Also when I tried bleeding the...

Rust/Paint Question by Birdlander
I'm working on the rust beneath/behind the rear side windows of my 73 Super Beetle. There are 8-10 spots on each side of the car that are rusted through and range in size from 1/8" to about 1". I have cleaned all that out. Behind is some kind of foam that I'm assuming has wicked some...

Electrical Problem on 68' Westy by Fish
Ok, let me try to explain this. With the headlights off, the left turn signal works fine both front and back. The flasher sounds normal and the signal indicator on the dash works fine. The right turn signal works front and back for one flash and than the front signal light gets weaker but continues...

67 vw bug brakes by [email protected]
I have a 67 VW bug that has been sitting for a couple of years. I am now trying to move it but it feels as though the brakes are stuck. The emergency brake is off and the clutch is pushed to the floor but it still doesn't move when pushed. Any ideas? Thanks

Finding a part by Ted
Maybe this has been mentioned before but... I needed a part. It was unavailable/no longer made. Checked aircooled.net, mamotorworks, etc. Rebuilt part available from big internet VW site. Bought it. Didn't work right. So on a whim I typed the bosch part number into Google. Up popped a...

I have a 74 standard beetle in need of a home. I'm in Northern Illinois between Chicago and Rockford. The car was my project a couple of years ago. Everything is new of fixed. I had the body off the frame. All rusted areas had new metal welded installed. I can provide a detailed list for anyone...

68' Westy Front Door Alignment by Fish
I have a 68' Westy and the front doors don't lign up evenly around the frame.....looks crappy. They do close and latch, but kind of bump into the latches instead of tansitioning smoothly into the latches. The hinges and latches appear tight and the doors do not move if you lift up on them when...

'67 Beetle: Correct Tire Size by Buick8
Hi, I found a pretty good '67 VW and need new tires. It has 5.60X15 now. I see about three common sizes of radials: 165X15, 155X15, and 145X15. Which is closest to my tire size? I like the original look of the 5.60s and don't want tires which look too big (diameter and/or section) but can't afford...

What's the harm in retarding or advancing? by Richard Golding
My 77 'vert was getting sluggish, so I adjusted valves, changed the oil & tuned it up to factory specs, but still sluggish. VW and Bentley both say the timing should be set at 5 degrees ATDC. I decided to experiment a bit, and set it at about 2 1/2 ATDC. What a difference! Much peppier, and does...
