Opinions on a 1971 squareback by
Paul Broadway
To Whom it may concern, I am thinking about adding another ACVW to my
stable. I have seen an ad for a 1971 Squareback and I was wondering what I
should look for when I inspect the car. They only want $1,800.00 for it,
that sounds like a deal. It is described as, "running, in good condition".
The...

brakes scaring me. by
[email protected]
I have a 1973 standard beetle that I just purchased. It has front
discs from Aircooled.net. Every so often the brake pedal will go all
the way to the floor before any effect is noticed. Once I let off and
press it again it will be fine. This only happens occasionally but it
is unnerving when it...

Bondo UV? by
Christian M. Mericle
Anyone ever used this stuff?
http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1414932
I thought about buying some but the two big-name stores that sell it
online, JC Whitney & Ace Hardware, no longer carry it (in spite of the
above-posted link). Makes me wonder if it quickly failed the test...

6v flywheel on 1500. What do I need? by
Chip
Hi all,
I'm headed home this weekend and was hoping you all could help me with
a parts list since all my manuals are at home. I've got a junk 40hp
engine that I'd like to remove the flywheel from and fit to a slightly
less tired 1500 engine so I can put it in a 6v car without any other
mods. It's...

Solved "hesitation" by
bug '59
Hey guys,
finally solved my problem with the lack of power.
At first everything pointed to the fueldelivery/cloged jets.
If not that the problem started after warming up the engine. So that was
probably more likely to be an valve issue. Re-adjusted the valves at 0.15mm
and took her for a spin....

VW bug racer on MonsterGarage by
remco
According to the discovery channel web site, the ACVW monstergarage build is
being shown on Oct 3 and 4, 9pm.
The initial date was to be in August, then the latter part of September so
it has shifted one more time.
Apprarently, they are making a racer out of a 51 split ragtop - should be
cool.

Not Exactly the Peoples Car by
Bill Berckman
VW has introduced a new automobile. Unfortunately Bill Gates and Warren
Buffet (and possibly Jimmy Buffet) are going to be the only ones that
can afford it. Wonder if they should have stuck to making Golfs or
whatever it is they make now. Article...

911 into type 2 by
Gareth Edwards
I know it's possible to fit a Porsche 911 motor into a camper, as I have
seen it done before. But how easy a job is it?
Do you have to change the gearbox and suspension setup aswell?
And would a turbo motor fit in there?
I know it aint going to be cheap, but it would be a lot of fun!

Starting sometimes by
RhinoJockey
On my 74 Super... The motor is back in and starter won't turn. I can bump
start the car and run it, turn the ignition off, turn it to start again
and it will crank and start. I can do this over and over until I let it
sit for 10-15 minutes and then it won't crank again. Just a bad contact?
Bad...

Terminals on new Bosch horn? by
[email protected]
Just got a new Bosch horn for my 1973 super beetle. However, the
terminals aren't marked, and I can't remember how the horn was
previously set up.
Anyone know which wire to stick where? Does it matter?
Thanks!

Bug Gets a New Life by
Ray Dios Haque
I was planning on taking my 68' bug out of town tomorrow, and so I laid
down a couple bucks and had new tires put on it (standard 165R15).
Sears did the job for me getting the tires within a day and a half, yet
putting my on hold about three hours before starting to put them on the
car. You can't...

'67 Bonnet won't open by
Tom Lacombe
My son just bought a '67 Bug, and the seller couldn't open the bonnet.
He said it would take two people to open it as the cable or locking
mechanism was not adjusted properly. One person was to pull the knob
on the dash while another lifted on the bonnet handle. The seller
pulled on the knob until...

Oil filter adaptation by
ubergoober
Greetings, All:
First, thanks to all those who helped out on the last bus project,
especially Bob, who never fails to crack me up, and to remind me of my
Great-Grandpa Sutton, who used to build Sprint cars and other racecars
in Indianapolis in the 50's and 60's. I wound up having a shop...

Troubleshooting stock FI by
Mel P.
My 77 Bug has stock FI, which I've kept going pretty well. I haven't done
anything to it for a while so I probably forgot some of the more obvious
fixes. Is there any site out there to help troubleshoot or should I go
through the whole procedure in the Bentley book?
