Windows, Distributors, A/C, Etc. by
Harry Smith
Hello hello. I'm still kicking around in my recently aquired '74
cal-style Std Beetle. It's running great and all I've done is change
the oil and fiddle with the interior. There's a few things that still
need some work however...
For one, the car has one-piece windows installed...poorly. I'm...

'68 Bus Heater Question: Asbestos by
Twisted Vintage
I am in the process of fixing up a '68 bus.
I thought I read somwhere a few months ago that the insulation around the
heater pipe (underneath bus) is wrapped in Asbestos.
Is that true?
Thanks,
Doug

Reccomendations Please: new motor for 1961 vw beetle by
envirogisgirl
Hi,
My motor blew today. I am interested in specific manufacture
reccomendations regarding a new motor.
I have a 1961 vw beetle daily driver, converted to 12 volt system 3
years ago, so not totally stock. This car is my daily driver between
TAMU, work, and fun. It seems much more in town traffic...

Greetings,
I've brought all of the old VolksWeb message forums back on line -
there are quite a number of old messages. I thought it would make an
interesting read and wanted to share the project again.
The ability to add new posts is not working yet, but I plan to make
that available...

Wooo hoooo ! Do you remember your 1st time ? by

Split my 1st case today :-)
I bought some junk motors a while ago - so I could get some experience
rebuillding them.
This is a 1200 with a blown piston.
Split the case tonight :-) there's all sorts of metal bits inside - piston
, and I think bearing shell !

Compression testing dilemma by
Dangermouse
Compression testing needs to be carried out with the engine warmed up
and with all plugs out...
but...
....the plugs should only be removed when the heads are cold, or I risk
damaging the threads.
Maybe I'm being overcautious here but what's the correct procedure?

Engine rebuild question by
Howard Rose[_1_]
My daily driver '75 1303 started making a horrible knocking sound on
my way to work this morning, and to me it sounds like worn crank
bearings. I stopped and had the car towed home.
The original AR-code 1300 engine was rebuilt in 1995 as a 1641,
although I don't know what the rebuild entailed. ...

Geetings from Holland,
I'm thinking about putting discs on my '73. It's not if but when.
However I'm surfing through the RAMVA database searching for ideas.
I'm reading stuff like; using T3 rear drums or a "residual pressure valve"
and then some.
Stuff going back to the...

Timing question... by
Dangermouse
Could somebody tell me please, or point me towards an appropriate
reference, where a 1964 Type 2 1500 motor (engine code O566079) in
combination with its stock distributor (Bosch ZV/JU4R3) should be timed
at? Should it be at 7.5 or 10 degrees?
Thanks folks.

leaking carb by
anton[_1_]
Hi,
Had a laying around 34 pict 3 carb (made in japan) which looked a bit
filfy but not rusty and not frozen up. So while waiting for my weber
44 IDF I decided to give it a try and rebuild it. Went throught it and
found it fairly clean inside. Put it on the car, fired right up.
after a minute...
