transmission pan gasket question by Nate Nagel
I've got a '55 Studebaker with a '63 Borg-Warner Flightomatic transmission installed in it. The pan gasket is leaking badly and making a mess of the floor of my friend's garage. If I ask for a pan gasket for a later Ford FMX (same tranny) at the parts store, would it be neoprene instead of...

1989 ford f-150 start troubles by Swabbie
this is a problem that has plagued this truck for about 2 years now. I have posted this problem on about every ford tech site on the net. Still no go. heres the situation, the truck will crank right up, and drive perfectly to wherever I am going. I then turn it off. If it has been about 30 miles or...

98 ford windstar keeps stalling by Swabbie
this happens about once a week. heres the kicker, it only stalls from a stop while making a right turn. I'm sure this is a coincidence, but everytime it has happened, its during a right turn from a stop sign. If you drop it into neutral to restart it, it won't. you have to completely stop the van,...

scan tool by mbjj
What kind of scan tool should I get for my '94 metro? I know that OBD 2 started in '95 and looking at the interface under the dash has me a little confused. I want to pull the codes and have a couple of other troubleshooting measures at hand if needed. Is there a digimoto type thing that I can...

Fender bender problems? by Son of Sam
Hello gents. OK...93 Cavalier RS. I was driving downtown in some fairly heavy traffic the other day and I hit another car from behind. The guy in front of her slammed on his brakes, so she slammed on hers and I ran into her. The problems that I have that I can see a -hood won't close...

Stretch & retemper "tired" springs. Can-do? No-go? Insane? by Don Bruder
Subject pretty much says it all. Wondering about trying to do this with the springs from my '82 Mazda 626 that has a touch of "saggy" to it. The concept in my head going something like "anneal, stretch, retemper." If practical, anybody got any ideas about who to talk to in the northern California...

Question about half shafts / CV boots by [email protected]
While doing some other work on my car, I noticed that there was play in in my halfshaft. I could grab the part between two of the accodian looking boots and could move it back and fourth (towards either boot). Is this normal? Does it make it bad? The boots themselves look fine (not torn). ...

Costs more to mount/balance ultra high performance tires? by [email protected]
A mechanic told me that it would cost more to mount/balance my GoodYear F1 GS-D3 tires than the other regular times. He said it is more difficult to balance these ultra high performance ones. Is this crap or is he legit? I thought mounting and balancing is pretty much the same for all tires. Thanks.

Hub and disc assy doesnt go back far enough by wortho
I am in dire need of assistance as I have changed my bearings and repacked the hub with grease and trying to install the disc assembley back onto the stub axle, but it seems as though it is not going back far enough to allow the calipers to fit on. The car is a FJ40 Landcruiser 1976 and I am...

Does windshield rock chip repair prevent crack propagation? by mike
Got a nasty rock chip in my windshield. Three impact divots connected by a crack about 1.5" long. Short star pattern at each impact. It's well out of the normal field of view, but I'm very concerned about the crack propagating. Googling informs me that the rock chip repair people are good at...

Popping suspension sound.... by [email protected]
I have an 87 S10 4wd pickup. It has been making a popping noise on the front driver side. I'm pretty sure something is worn in the suspension because my front left side tire (the one on the driver side) is worn on the outer portion of the tire. Does anyone have any ideas which part on the...

broke the bleeder screw by [email protected]
Hi out there, I think there was a little air in my brake lines, and when I went to bleed the brakes one of my screws broke off, just about flush with the caliper. There is no leakeage of brake fluid, but I want to get that screw out and put in a good one. I got one from the junkyard. Does anyone...

Anyone know Web site with Detailed OBD 2 Code details by Mountain
I was wondering if anyone knows of a web site that has detailed interpretation of OBD 2 codes. I have found many sites that list the one-liner title of the code, but was hoping there would be some that would give a paragraph or so on details of how to address the issue of the code. I found one a...

Need explanation for computer code for '93 Camry by [email protected]
I have a '93 camry v6 that has a check engine light. When I go through the procedure to get the computer code, it gives me one not listed in the book! I get a 28. The last code in the group listed in the Haynes manual is 27. Most of the 20s list problems with the oxygen sensors. This car must...

Tirerack vs. Discount tires by [email protected]
>From my research and quotes that i've gotten, discount tires come out to be cheaper for the tires that i wanted. Alot of people have talked about tirerack, but the cost was more than discount tires. Just wanted everyone to do research before jumping on the tirerack bandwagon.

Toyota Paseo starter by Paul
Can someone tell me what to disassemble to get the starter out of a '92 Paseo. I have it loose, but cannot see what will work for getting it out. I am told the car may be similar to a Celica. Thanks, Paul
