1500 to 1600: What Tin to get? by
griff
I busted a connecting rod on my '67 bug this week.
Instead of rebuilding, I'm swapping it out for a 1600 dual port.
What I'm not sure of is, what tin is interchangeable?
I'm assuming that the cylinder shrouds and fan shroud need to be
replaced?
Can I use the rest of the 1500 tin, or are other...

1500 to 1600DP by
Sneaks
Soooooooooo...it looks like I might be getting a '72 1600DP in good
condition for real cheap - aka FREE - and so of course I'm thinking of
pulling the 1500 out the Bug and swapping the DP in (those purists in the
group, no fear, I'm gonna keep and rebuild the 1500 to have in the future in
case I...

1500CC Rebuild kits? (85.5mm x 69mm) by
Nick Price
I'm looking for a good 85.5 x 69mm rebuild kit, I read somewhere that I
should also make sure to get a forged crank. Is this really necessary? I'm
not going to be pushing a ton of power, just a dual-carbed (34) 1600cc dual
port motor.
Also, if anyone can recommend a kit and where to get it, I'd...

1600 -> 1641 by
Ant
Hello,
I can remember writing about this a while ago, but thought i'd ask again as
my minds a bit naff.
I have a 1600cc AB engine (with Engle 110, 1500 g/box and 32/36 Weber dual
Choke). I've seen that you can buy a piston kit to make it 1641cc. Sounds
good as i understand that you dont need to...

1600 DP driving me nuts... by
Bill
He all:
I have a 1600 DP that's a mystery to me. Engine runs fine but will not
hold a good idle (sometimes dies, etc.) & is running VERY rich at idle.
Stock carb (new, not flooding); new 009; new plug wires, good coil,
valves adjusted at 006. Here's the kicker: Checking the idle timing
with a...

Craig Baker
Have a rail buggy with a 40 HP motor in it that blew. The buggy is
based on a 40 HP, with 40HP suspension and trans. I also have a 12
volt 1600 Dual Port motor that runs.
Can I just put the 6 volt flywheel onto the 1600 motor and fit it to
the buggy?

1600 engine noise by
Evan Evans
My beloved 74 lime green love bug is making a strange noise. Can any
of you experts out there give me a heads up on what it my be? When
starting from cold it has a tick tick tick noise. Once warm the noise
is not noticeable. The sound reminds me of almost like the sound of an
electrical spark as...

1600 engine survey by
azazel scratch
I have to conduct a poll for a philosophy class. My poll is whether or
not a VW Bug 1600 engine leaks oil. My 1600 on my 1971 Super Beetle
leaked oil and my 1600 on my 1974 Super Beetle leaks oil. If you have a
1600 engine on your bug could you e-mail me the year of your car and
whether or not...

1600 rebuild questions by
js
Hey folks! I am rebuilding my 74 beetle 1600, and have 2 questions.
1, when I set the distributor up per the Wilson book, it appears that
when the timing dots line up my pistons are in mid stroke on all 4
cylinders. Is this correct? The rotor points to the mark, but that
would be more like MDC...

1600 Single port engine? by
Bart Bervoets
Stripped down a rusted beyond repair brazilian bus, found on the back
a tag saying 1600, but the engine is a single port.
I assumed they never made a 1600 single port but only went to 1500.
So now, can anyone tell me what i have here and if i should do it up?

1600+ cylinder&piston kit for 1300 AB engine by
Damjan Mozetič
Hi,
I am considering beefing up my stock dual port AB 1300 engine into
something just above 1600ccm. I might be interested in a slip-in
solution (no modification to case/head), if such an option is possible
and it wouldn't compromise the engine's durability. Also my budget is
limited to around 250...

1600cc Dual Port at a glance? by
Frank
I'm hunting for a Beetle and unfortunately it sometimes happens that the
person placing the ad omits the "dp" from the ad.
Is there an easy way, by looking at the photo of the engine, to deterime if
it's a dual or, single port?
Thanks,
Frank
