E36 M52 overheating slightly by
John Burns
Funny thing happened today. For the first time in well over six months
it was warm
enough to drive with the heating turned off in my '96 328i. In fact I
think the
E30 will leave it's hibernation in the garage soon :-)
Anyway, I noticed after about 50 miles the temp gauge was just above the
3/4...

Z3 cold start issue update by
Tom D
A few months ago I posted a message about a cold starting problem that I was
having with my '97 Z3. When it was cold, the car would start but then the
idle would drop. The car would stall if I didn't keep the revs up for a
minute or so. Then once I got going it was fine. I asked if it might...

E numbers? by
OJ
Just curious, but is there some logic behind BMW E-numbers. I was just
passing by this group and I see E36, E39, E46 . . . yet they mean
absolutely nothing to me (I understand my Z3 is an E36. That's about all ;-)
Thanks

Shock Absorbers (KYB, OEM, Bildstein, etc) best bang for buck ? by
Alan B. Mac Farlane
BMW Inc looked at the undercarriage of my 2000 528i (185,000 miles) and
nothing is at wear or worry ... it is holding the wheel alignment of
5000 miles ago .. just the shock absorbers are getting weaker but are
not leaking any.
The car science I know about the nitrogen gas system is about 20...

What to do with a 1975 3.0si? by
Dave Barnett
This has been sitting in a garage since the early 1980's. Back then it
had VERY noisy valves & I had a friend willing to help repair it. We
took the cylinder head off but he got stuck because it needed some sort
of BMW tool to go further. Long story, but it's still there, with all
of the...

Electronic Throttle by
OldHarleyRider
It is amazing how many people have posted in response to the Electronic
Throttle (drive by wire)problem, or sudden acceleration, or unintended
acceleration. I noticed that all the posters mention either their
educational background or the amount of research they have done. I am
surprised that...

1999 E39 Transmission question by
JB[_8_]
I just bought a 1999 528i that is in emaculate shape.
It has 46,000 miles on it. It literally was owned the "a lady who only
drove it to church."
I already have a 2000 528i with 185,000 miles and bought the 99 with plans
to sell the 2000.
I noticed the 2000 shifts a lot smoother than the 99....

E61 m-sport - ride quality / comparisons by
Jeremy
I have been running a 525d M Sport Touring for 2 years now. One of the
things that surprised me was how firm (read: jarring at times) the ride
is. it has the sport suspension and 18" run-flats.
I am considering replacing now with an Audi A6 Avant and wondered if
anyone had any direct experience...

about to buy a 1999 E39 by
JB[_8_]
I currently own a 2000 E39 with 185,000 miles. I love this car, however
it's getting pretty ragged.
As I was talking to someone about possibly getting a new car, they
mentioned their father-in-law had a car "exactly" like mine for sale with
very low miles.
I further investigated it and called,...

1995 BMW 318ic Jack Lift...where to put the jack? by
BeeRich
Hi folks. Hopefully someone can help me.
I have a hydraulic lift for my car. The car has the peg lifts which
fit into holes in the side, but it's flimsy. I have jack stands as
well, but I want to use the hydraulic lift. Where can I put the lift
so that it's safe? Is there a given location...

electronic throttle by
David Skelton[_3_]
> some??? damned few dude - that's why we have abs.
I thought the main reason for ABS is to maintain steering control when the
brakes were pressed too hard, so hazards could be avoided. But, ABS does not
work so well in the very wet or icy conditions.
I remember that Audis of the early...

Oil leak from an E28 by
Dave Plowman (News)
My brother's old E28 520 is leaking oil past the front camshaft oil seal
following replacement of a blown cylinder head gasket - and head planing.
The seal itself was replaced on the head rebuild - and has been done
again. It starts dripping about 10 minutes after a cold start and rapidly
becomes a...
