Baby food jar lids and ACVW's by
Mr. K[_2_]
not for purists. but did you know Gerber Baby food jar lids fit
perfectly over the "clean air" outlets in the cooling shroud? for summer.
a lot of cooling energy is lost to the heater boxes. or if you gave up
on heat and use "J" tubes.
yes, you can paint them. black.

72 super former autostick by
zam
I have been tooling around for 5 years in my 72 SB pretty much driving
it every sunny day and it looks like the solenoid went in the starter.
I say that as I bridge the 2 contacts on the solenoid, it jumps to
life. I thought back in the day I could just swap out the solenoid,
but now my parts guy...

A car probably not for...

Which Plug Wires To Use With A Tiger CDI? by

My '73 Beetle has a Tiger CDI that I got from aircoooled.net about 10
years ago.
I am thinking of replacing the Jacob's plug wires with these:

Just picked up a '71 Super Beetle with autostick by
Patrick O'Brien
Hi all,
I just came into this car and I am finding all sorts of little issues.
ATF leaks. No idea where to start with that one.
Fuel leaks from the hose between the fillup port and the tank, along
the tank. It looks like the previous owner clamped material around the
hose and kept the fuel...

Why RAMVA has declined by
KWW[_2_]
Well folks. I can say from the perspective of myself and some local
friends that once the ISPs quit providing Newsgroups it became much
harder to participate. Sure I could use Google groups but it was not as
easy to use. I had to set up an alt ID so that my gmail account was not
made visible,...

My beetle in a film. by
[email protected]
Hey everyone,
I have not posted here in YEARS. I hope we can bring this group back
to the popularity it once had.
I'm the guy with the PlowBug, a rusted 74 Super Beetle that I use on
my acreage to plow snow in the winter. Some of you will remember this.
I think its been 14 years since I started...

Back up and running.... darned Ethanol! by
KWW[_2_]
Got my '65 running again! Was using one of the other, air conditioned
cars during this past hot summer in TX but with the kids home on leave
they needed those vehicles. So I had to tackle the issues with Jenny
(the Inside Out Cow).
All wiring is fine.
Opened up the carb and sprayed...

Does anybody know what goes into the center of the flywheel on an '82
Vanagon? I thought it was the pilot bearing, but it doesn't fit. Is the
hole just empty? Thanks.

Distributor issues by
John[_28_]
Solved one dist issue. Couldn,t stop engine pinging (pinking?) unless
timing was set to about 5 deg ATDC with a SVDA dist. . Turns out dist was
originally a dual vac type where vac can retards ignition at start and then
relies on mech advance. At some stage the two hose retarding vacuum can has...

Howdy Folks,
I have been lurking here off and on for a long time.
My oldest daughter just picked up a cute 61 beetle so I have another VW to
care for.
That makes two to look after. My 2nd oldest has a 69 Ghia.
When they send me some photos, I'll post links to them here.

renew reflectors with foil by
Waldo[_2_]
yes, I line old dull lights with aluminum foil. I put it behind the
real reflectors on the tail-lights of the '71 T 2 Too.
on the'60 KG , I even used said foil to block light from shining down on
the bumper. more upwards and outwards is my motto.
but then there probably aren't any daily driver...

'bench starting' a newly rebuilt engine by
Mel P.[_2_]
I FINALLY finished rebuilding a 66, 6 volt engine. Did the whole split case
thing. Converted it to a 12 volt. Changed the camshaft and flywheel,
bearings...
Gapped the points and valves.
I'm trying to start it but nothing. I got spark. I've tried spraying gas
or starter fluid into the...
