Is working on your car unhealthy? by Laura Bush murdered her boy friend
Oil right out of the ground is probuly harmless but the oil and grease used on cars has all sorts of additivies in it. In the last year i've started to wear disposable gloves for messy jobs like oil changes or greasing the front end. Used to work without gloves and never had any trouble, and the...

teenage insurance by leo
I just set up an account for an 18 1/2yo girl, with one accident on her record. The rate is $4500/yr. I added an older girl, the rate remains the same. WHAT IF I add a third boy who is 17 to the account. I think the rate is already over the top that the boy might have very little effect on...

There I was, Driving in the Right Lane... by Dave Head
yesterday morning, about 5:00 AM on rt. 5 SE of DC. Everyone else seems to be wanting to do 70 mph in the rain and the dark, the SL is 55, and I'm doing my usual +7 of the SL. In the right lane - I had a right turn coming up in about 5 miles anyway... so what happens? A straight truck, with a...

So you got a Traffic Ticket by jhonny
Every week someone posts here and says "I just got a speeding ticket for doing (blank) in a (blank) zone. What do I do now?" So you got a traffic ticket. You were cruising along in your automobile, peacefully minding your own business, not hurting anybody, when all of a sudden Ol' Johnny Law...

car carcasses left on side of road reduce accidents? by Dan Jacobson
Say, if the government were to leave the carcasses of wrecked cars along the side of the highway instead of towing them away, wouldn't that constant visual reminder reduce accidents? (Yes, pulled back a safe distance, and not on private property, and sufficiently wrecked/burnt/rusted so there are...

Limbs outside of cars by Wallaby
What is the big deal with drivers now hanging their arms outside of their vehicles when driving? Its about time the police started to throw the book at these posers! It is an offence, ever since indicators were fitted to the automobiles.

Driving a Volvo Cross-Country 2.5 turbo in a big city by florin
I'm on vacation in Vancouver, BC and, unfortunately, I rented a Volvo 'cross-country' (mini-sunv/large station wagon) with a 2.5 liter turbo engine. (I figured I may need the AWD for my trip to the mountains). Well, the turbo lag on this POS is extreme--at first I thought that the parking brake...

Gravel vs. Paved by Bob Lutz
I have roughly a 20 mile commute to work. I can take mostly paved roads and highways, or I can take a set of well-maintained gravel roads. Is one way better or easier on the car than the other? The gravel roads are not much bumpier than the highways.
