Z4 automatic vs. stick by
grinder
Anybody have a preference of automatic over stick?
I will be buying a Z4. I want an automatic because 1) I will not be driving
it like a race car and 2) the advances in automatic transmissions make them
as reliable as manuals and 3) I have been driving autos for over 30 years
and am ready for...

M30 air intake manifold by
[email protected]
I am about to buy a 1991 BMW 535i (in Canada) that has 345000 km and a
leak in the air intake manifold as well as an engine oil leak. Price
300 dollars. Car still runs. I plan on repairing the intake manifold
and sealing the engine oil leak. Then I will work on strapping on a
hydrogen booster. ...

More on Top Tier gasoline by
Built_Well
Usually I get 24 miles to the gallon for stop-and-go city
driving with the '06 Camry LE, but this last tankful I got
28 city. I really babied the accelerator pedal this time
and, of course, have plenty of air in the tires. I had
Shell V-Power premium in the tank this time (for its
exceptional...

Miata Mx5 - BMW Z4 Compare by
AM
Hi,
Many reviews of the Z4 - a great roadster in its own right - write that the
car has a tendancy to understeer and for a sports car enthusiast lacks the
feel that translates the road through the steering wheel.
The new MX5 which obviously in a different price bracket, is more of a
hardcore...

Low oil pressure, is this a common problem? by
Ulf
I've noticed that my '92 BMW 535 has a problem with low oil pressure
when parked at an incline. I made two runs getting sand today, and to
get the trailer in the right position I had to park the car in the steep
area of the driveway. Both times the oil pressure light was on when I
started the car,...

Is it just BMW that does not recommend tire rotation? by
Shaft Drive
Do any other manufacturers other than BMW not recommend tire rotation?
>From the BMW shop manual:
Tire rotation
The tread wear patterns at the front end
differ from those at the rear - the actual
patterns will vary according to individual
driving conditions. In the interests
of safety and...

Older BMW 328is or Newer Chevy Impala? by
[email protected]
I drive back & forth to work each day (60 miles a day round trip) and
have a budget of $15,000. I've narrowed down my decision to 2
possibilities and want to make a move tonight.
I can buy a 1998 BMW 328is with 80,000 miles for $15,000.
Or I can buy a 2005 Chevy Impala with 18,000 miles for...

Wheel bolts instead of lug nuts...why? by
GRL
Recently bought a 330i and learned, much to my surprise and disgust,
that BMW used bolts instead of lug nuts to attach wheels to the car.
This makes mounting wheels much more difficult than with lug nuts (and
wheel studs). You need three hands instead of two. (Most folks only have
two.

RAK's recurrent ruminations on cars, chicks and courtship by
RichAsianKid
I was cruising around in my Bimmer coupe this morning and thinking
about sex.
It's unhealthy. I was thinking of a subject from recent postings on
newsgroups - which means that newsgroups are spilling into 'real
life'. I really have to stop. But still the point is a very
interesting one.
After an...

Need good input on tires by
Rudy[_3_]
The Continental tires on my 323 still have good tread but I'm sick of the
crummy
things. Wheels need balancing, but I'm not gonna bother, just get new
tires.
Continental tires apparently behave extremely poorly on wet roads while
going around curves. Mine have been so bad that I almost wonder...

Brakes too good. by
Mike G
Just aquired an E39 to replace my E34.
One difference that is immediately apparent, is the lightness of the brakes.
So little pressure is required to brake, that unless I brace myself with my
left foot, I slide forward in the seat. This, for just normal slowing down
braking. Not hard braking.

Wrong Oil? by
Jeff
A year and a half ago I became a BMW owner for the first time purchasing a
pre-owned 2000 E39.
My first heart attack nearly came the first time it was due for service and
I took it to the local BMW dealership. The cost for an oil change in my
opinion was way over inflated.
I since then started...

Maintenance schedule for '03 E46 325i by
Giskard Reventlov
Hello Everyone,
Looking in my BMW manuals, I see that I'm supposed to bring the car in for
service when the idiot light indicate as much.
Does anyone know where I can find an actual schedule?
You know, oil change every xK, minor service every yK, major service every
zK, etc.

Are Radar Detectors Useless? by
Bacon
I've gotten 4 tickets in the last 6 months. Luckily I'm in Missouri
where your lawyer buddy "fixes" them. I've always thought radar
detectors were left over from the 70's and all the different bands and
instant on stuff cops use makes them ineffective. But I'm getting
desperate.

Diesel starting problem - update by
Grumps
Hi All
I'm not 100% sure of the netiquette associated with providing an update to a
recent thread. I'm sure, if you're like me, that you don't read old threads,
so I thought I'd make a posting under a new subject.
If you can recall, I have an old BMW that has an intermittent starting
problem....
